I think I may have a New Favorite Book!

Okay, maybe not like favorite of all time, but it’s right up there.  So what is it?

World War Z!

I’m not even completely done with it yet, but I have been totally blown away with what I’ve seen so far.  I’ve never been a big zombie fan, but the gravity and emotional weight that Max Brooks gives to the stories of the Zombie War is just incredible.  And even though it’s told under the pretense of being an after-the-fact oral history, I’ve been amazed at how scary it can actually be.

Oh, and according to the Risk Calculator on the website, I would have had a 34% chance of surviving the war, had it actually happened.

Anybody else read this and care to comment?

Not yet, but I have read his previous book, The Zombie Survival Guide. The fact that I haven’t read it yet is really just a factor of being too lazy to pick it up intentionally and never remembering about it when I’m browsing in Borders or wherever.

Thanks for the heads-up on the book… BTW I would have had a 59% chance of surviving the war.

This is fraking unbeliveable. Guess what I just finished two nights ago – World War Z! Couldn’t put it down – kept me up worrying about attacks in the night. I agree, it’s definately the best book I’ve read this year.

I’m playing Pandemic with that guy from Oriental this afternoon, and I’ll be thinking the Red Plague is the Zombie Spread from China.

That’s pretty crazy.  Both of us reading the same book at the same time without having discussed it before (must be some geeky brother mind-meld thingy).  I was up til almost 1am last night reading it, but I still have about 40 pages left.  It just continues to blow me away!

And with this fresh in my mind I made sure to pick it up while I was in B&N on Sunday.
