Ra – Game of the Month Review

Well, another month has gone by and the Hypermind BoardGamers have experienced another Game of the Month!  In August, the game was Ra, the classic Reiner Knizia tile auction game.  Since I’ve already written a complete review for Ra, and I don’t think that I have a whole lot more to say about it, I thought I’d just take a minute to go over how it went as Game of the Month!

We played 7 games of Ra in August, with an average of length of 40.5 minutes.  There were two 5-player games and five 3-player games, with the 3-player games being about 20 minutes shorter (on average) than those with 5 players.  This pushes Ra up to a total of 10 plays, making it only the fourth “dime” for the Hypermind BoardGamers since we started our regular boardgame night back in January.

Personally, my rating for Ra has remained at a strong 9.0 out of 10, and the rest of Hypermind pretty much agrees with me.  Ten different people rated the game with values from 7 to 9, which combined for an average rating of 8.5 on the BGG scale.

Ra obviously gets great ratings from everyone around here, and people just seem to enjoy the game so much, win or lose.  It’s quick and easy to play, and several people have already begun to take the “next step” of understanding strategy after just a few plays.  If you haven’t tried Ra, I and the whole Hypermind BoardGaming family wholeheartedly recommend that you try it soon.
